Yesterday was the big day! At 08:08 I was sitting in the s-bahn on with my running partner Sheldon. We were on our way to the Berlin Half Marathon. As always I was super nervous and thought to myself, am I crazy? But, just a few hours later at 10:40 am, my feet crossed the Start Line and I was off, along with nearly 30 thousand runners! What an event it was! The weather was perfect and the crowds were out cheering each and every runner on to victory. I was in good shape till KM15, then I have to admit I was ready to throw in the towel. Lucky for me I caught up with Uwe who I had met at the start. He stayed with me the rest of the way, he walked with me when I needed to walk and cheered me on till we crossed that finish line. I am forever grateful. One of the many highlights of the 21.5 was running through the Brandenburg Gate shortly before the finish. The memories will forever me etched in my mind. My running partner Sheldon, well he deserves all the praise, as he finished his first marathon in 2 hours!!!!! We had planned to do some serious drinking of beer after the run, but we were both so mentally and physically exhausted that all we wanted to do was go home. We will enjoy those beers at a later date.
Sheldon, Opus and me! Yes Opus goes where Sheldon goes, so of course he got his own race bib and joined us for all the fun!
The Brandenburg Gate…..this picture was taken about 9 am..the city was just waking up, the weather was perfect and we were ready to rumble!
This was taken just moments before we took off. That is Uwe in the backround…the fellow runner that got me to the finish line.
SUCCESS! We did it and we have the medals to prove it.
