In 2003, we bought a house in Kleinmachnow Germany. We got a pretty sweet deal for a “Siedlungs Haus” that was freshly renovated… it was move in ready and the only work we had to do, was work we wanted to do. We walked through the entire house and I was quite pleased with every thing I saw, now the bathrooms well they were not my dream bathrooms, but could have been green or brown or something gross, so on a whole I was okay. Truly, the bathrooms were more than fine… now a corner bathtub was never my dream but something I more than could live with. So we signed on the dotted line, packed about 300 boxes and moved from our rental house in Berlin to the small community Kleinmachnow.
Fast foward to 2019. The floor tiles in the bathroom were cracking… that corner bathtub was driving me insane and well both bathrooms were simply showing their age. I started the discussion… let´s renovate! The husband signed off…. a friend was in the process of getting the drawings ready and then COVID hit. Putting a damper on my plans. Fast forward again to the 01st of February 2021, I was in the downstairs bathroom cleaning and noticed the water stains on the ceiling and wall and the rest, well you can imagine. Yes, COVID is still a part of our lives, but we had no choice now, the work had to begin.
The plumber came and a week later, that corner bathtub that I so grew to hate got thrown out…… and the RENOVATIONS began. The first issue was to find the cause of the water damage which they now tell was a year in the making. A drying machine got set up and we waited….. it was declared dry and the first Handwerker came and started the demolotion… the crapper flew out the window along with all the tiles! What a site!
The repairs were started, the new piping put in and then it was time for the drywall/tile man to come. He came, he started and then the Gutachter for the Insurance came.. .oh boy. No no, he said the ceiling /floor are still wet… that meant another drying machine with long hoses moved in to the downstairs bathroom.. which we now call the SCHWITZ ZIMMER. It is soo bloody warm in there that even our toothpaste got all runny–yuck. The drywall/tile man continued as best he could and yesterday, on the 29th of March, tiled the bathtub/shower area in the upstairs bath! Yippee…. and they told me today that the bathtub is already in and they will install still this week, so that we can take bath again…. granted in a construction site.. but I will take it. Side note… ceiling/floor still not dry…..
Meanwhile upstairs….
this is the thingy that will regulate the temperature of the water… They had to open it up again because it was set in to low
The last picture was taken on the 29th of March….. our bathroom remodel is obviously far from over, so please tune in to see how the story continues.
