These sure are surreal times we are living in right now. A few weeks ago, I did not give this virus a second thought…. now the calender says it is the first of April 2020 and we are basically in lock down now for almost 2 weeks now here in Germany. My job has been put on hold and I have been home checking off as many items from my to do List as I can. One of the major ticket items was my basement storeroom. For years the room as been screaming at me… ” help me… clean me….. help me… ” Well, finally last Monday morning, after my workout, I grabbed alexa and a bottle of water and made my way into the trenches of my basement storeroom. About 8 hours later I emerged, victorious! I spent the rest of the week, with organizing every plastic bin, locker, and shelf and of course I spent lots of time with my label maker and my cricut!
The only regret I have is not taking before and during photos….. So, without further ado..
When you come into my storeroom (or House of Horros as I like to call it) You will see to your left these shelving units from Ikea. The first section is all wine and food and the second section is catering equipment and tablescaping supplies.
Pine Cones… get your Pine Cones at Nicki´s Shop of Horrors!
Plastic Bins from Ikea are my all time favorite thing to buy at Ikea… Can not get enough of them. During this purge session, I was able to empty 4 Bins…. which is a good thing on sooo many levels. In these bins you will find everything from cake pans-to christmas bulbs(in all colors) to catering supplies
yes…. i have candels! and when I go to create a table, do you know what I do? Yep, I run out to the store and buy them, as I never, ever have the right color or size! The Cabinet that my candels are stored in was our old Hifi Cabinet….
sorry for the bad lighting in this picture…. the picture taking is an on going learning process for me. On the left you see the candle collection. That cabinet is sitting on one of our old (over 30years) kitchen cabinets. And to the right of the picture you see lockers. Those were in my sons room when he was young! Yes the room is mish mush of furniture, but that is what I think is cool-a room full of memories! (YES, I would love to have a store room that looks like´s Martha´s, but let us be realistic…..
One locker is full of vases and flower pots, the other filled with candlesticks and lanterns. I did my best to purge, but just could not get rid of all of them! So many hold memories.
One cabinet is filled with all sorts of colored sands, rocks and glitter(every color, baby!)
just left of the door, is this chest of drawers. Almost 25 years old. It was in my son´s nursery and filled with all those cute little outfits. In 2003 when we moved to Kleinmachnow and our son got a big boys room, this chest of drawers found a new purpose in my store room. I would fill the drawers with stuff, take a sharpie and just write on the drawer what was in it. Well…. I just did not like that anymore, so with the help of my cricut, I made new up to date labels. Ah…. but what to do with the sharpie marks? Simple just some black paint and thus the reason why the black stripes are not straight! LOL
And there you have it! My revamped, cleaned up Store Room! There is sooooo much room now(do I see a shopping spree in my future?!!!)
Have a happy, safe and healthy day Everyone. Stay home if you can and if you have to get out there….. where a mask and social distance
