Race Bibs-Race Bib Bag! Pin It

Happy THursday Evening Everyone…..it is 6 pm here in Berlin Germany and as always I have had a busy day.

The day started off with a general cleaning of the main floor of the house(including those dreaded windows) The housework was followed by running errands and a trip to one of my favorite stores…..Depot. You see Depot had these purple pumkins that, well the pumpkins were simply needed. The afternoon was spent prepping for another big project of mine which I will

share with you in another post. And now, as I said it is 6 pm and time for some blog work! This evening I would like to share with you a sewing project of mine.

For all the runners/tri-atheltes out there, here is a question for you! WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE RACE BIBS?

Uptil now, I have filed them away, as I found it just too hard to part with them all. Yesterday, I decided it was time to do something with them and after some online research I created my very own/unique “BibBag”.. Now, you are all going to have to do me a big favor and please be do not be too critcal when you look at the following pictures.  I am by far not a professional and well there are a lot of sewing mistakes in my prototype, but I love it. Every “Bib” tells a story, from my first event(nordic walking) to my first sprint triatholon event to the BERLIN Half Marathon. I still catch myself grinnning from ear to ear when I look at pictures of that special half marathon day.

Step one was cutting out the backing. I used a plastic tablecloth that I had bought at Lidl. I cut two 50cm x 50cm pieces.

Step 2 is to pick out which bibs and ribbons to use( I took the medals off of the bands and created magnets out of them.  The bands I used for the bib bag.

Step 3 was to lay out the bibs and then sew them together

Step 4….the dreaded contact paper. Since I live in a smal town, I jumped on bike and road over to the town square where we have a great store with all sorts of goodies….. that is where I bought “Bücherfolie.” I then covered the “bib panels” with the contact paper. I cut out 25cmx25cm pieces. This made it easier than one big piece.

This is where it gets tricky….sewing the bib panel to the plastic panel. I did my best, but I am really going to have to figure something out for the next one! After sewing the panels together, I sewed on the ribbons that are now the handels of the bag.

Side A: Bibs: the Great Berlin 10K, Krumme Lanke Volkstriathlon, AvonLauf,Addias Nite Run and one very dear to my heart, the Pontiac Township High School Run for Respect

Side B Bibs: Airport Night Run, AvonRun, TierparkLauf, Intersport Potsdam Lauf, and my the bib from my very first event, the 5K Walk: LaufenGegendenKrebs

The Ribbons used for handels: are from a Pontiac Run for Respect and the VolvoTierpark Lauf
